A Year to jounrey into creative freedom

Tech is really volatie right now and while I am still happy that I am having a job I am preparing for the next wave of automation and Gen AI and Machine Learning.

It’s time to be the CG BOSS, Just joking haha.

With AI incoming, though I think the correct word should be Machine Learning Automation since that is what AI is doing, it’s automating work so you don’t have to, I do think most of the tech companies are letting people go is partially because of this massive automation upgrade that will take place.

Some game devs part of tech were let go too, like workers from Activision Blizzard and Riot Games, artist coders, marketers and those that contribute to making gaming, some say learn to code others say switch industries. One thing I have been looking at is starting freelance (solopreneurship). Everyone in the coming decade will or might be on contract or freelancers.

Thinking about these things, which let me to chance upon this video that kind of reminded me why I started this blog and other experiments.

While it applies to Junior devs it’s applicable to all with the coming wave of Machine Learning Automations

Be Your own boss

Summary of the video:

Doing more than being a coder. The same is for the Designer, Game Dev.

In the video, the speaker says that the tech industry laid off many employees in 2023 and the trend is likely to continue in 2024. He recommends that software developers and web developers should build their own brands and companies to be more independent and have more control over their careers. He believes that this is a better option than just looking for a job because the job market is volatile and companies do not care about their employees. He also thinks that there are many opportunities in coding beyond just a job, such as networking, building a YouTube channel, or starting a software development company. He says that even if you have a job, it is a good idea to build side hustles in case you get laid off. He concludes the video by encouraging people to take risks and build their own things.

Time to take a risk and scale that mountain

Start a side hustle

I decided to return to build up CG BOSS and this blog to build your own brands. It may be a better stratigic move, As the tides of technology shift and the landscape becomes more volatile, preparing for the inevitable waves of automation, Gen AI, and machine learning.

For me its to build my own studio someday, I want to become like CY GAMES. Maybe its a big dream but sometimes its worth the shot

In this era of profound change, the call to become your own CG BOSS resonates louder than ever. No, I’m not suggesting you quit your job today (unless you’re feeling adventurous!), but the winds of change suggest that the traditional job market is undergoing a transformation.

Reflecting on the recent shifts where even seasoned professionals in the gaming industry faced uncertainty, it’s evident that the future might be in the hands of freelancers and contract workers, running their own little agencies. The video that inspired me to re-start this blog highlighted the importance of being more than just a coder or a game developer.

The speaker in the video wisely advocates for developers to be their own bosses, emphasizing the benefits of independence and control over one’s career trajectory. The message resonates beyond coding; it’s applicable to designers, game developers, and anyone navigating the tech landscape.

In a world where job security is increasingly uncertain, having your brand, a side hustle, or even a full-fledged venture could be the safety net you need. It’s a journey into creative freedom, and as the video aptly puts it, “Take the risks, build your own things, and shape the future you envision.” The mountain is there to be climbed; are you ready for the ascent? 🚀🌄

  1. […] This is going to flood more devs to the indie dev scene or more stiff competition? Maybe its time to be a BOSS. […]
