My previous blog post I talked about why you should not make fan art and only use in some cases such as learning a style or how things are made.

But one other use of fan art is to build a following of fans through the fan Art you make by showing off your skill.

Now this is a bit of a grey area where you do derive indirect value. Maybe it’s likes on your page or awareness.

But it can be a good strategy for an independent creator who may be starting out, most of the artist on deviantart do this already. But it cannot be the only thing you do in the long term.
