Saw this in the FAQ section of a game dev course at Gamedev Unlocked now game dev, indie game dev is harder than before.
In 2024 with layoffs happening around tech and games with possible decline in revenues despite a good years in covid Game Dev might be even harder on legendary mode.
About 3 months ago I saw an email from Gamedev Unlocked creator David about the state of the indie industry not looking good in 2023. I believe the discussion was around the need to have a budget of $2 Million and a small team just for indie games.

Before the pandemic year maybe it might be able to get by as a solo dev but with the recents shifts that may not be the base so far.
Game Dev is now seemingly a more expensive business than others.
Layoffs and Reset
With many layoffs happening in both Tech and Games, I feel this industry is so unstable now I am not sure who would want to work there.
This year perhaps it’s better to refocus efforts on my own small indie projects and publish them, and start your own business.
Been thinking about trying some things and go all in. If one has the skills to code and do design and media, there is a chance to build you own personal brand.
It pays to be a fly
Being small might be the way now. Finding the right formula for oneself would be hard. But I believe there is spaces for flies to survive and succeed.

Remix and transform Pokemon with Guns
If Palworld taught me anything you can copy a good idea but only need to transform it at about 10% this makes it vastly different from the original.
I probably want to take a look at this remixing again.
It might be worth to remix old ideas in a new way.

[…] write this on my Newsletter BossKey about why I am not going full time indie dev. It’s just not the time as game dev is now on legendary mode. […]
