Recently on X saw a post about Level 5 discussing the use of AI in game development and not saying its bad.

This is being debated online and the backlash has started with many saying there is too much AI Slop already.

While it seem polarising the CEO has come out to discuss about the company usage. It depends on whether the developer wants to disclose the AI usage in production.

Some games like Expedition 33 were recently rescinded of their Indie Game of the Year award

While AI is often equated with plagiarism it depends on how the developer uses it. For good or Bad. Some parts of AI usage can speed up development process.

Good Taste

But even then many people have the access to AI means nothing on having a skill in good taste that will be a difference

Having good taste and aesthetic sense will be important as well as sales and marketing for distributing product.

Now this will be subjective to each person and it won’t be something you can judge on it with consistency.

Right now entry level stuff in development is eroding away, such as code generation and artworks, meaning now the expectation is you have to deliver works at a higher quality with faster turnarounds with AI use.

This trend I look at is only going to increase in many companies as they deploy more AI tools and usage across the development pipeline.

I do believe the most important is the human element as AI is not creative I still see it as a “Checker and Searcher”

So How Do You Develop Good Taste?

That’s the hard question. Taste comes from:

• Studying great work deeply
• Building and shipping projects
• Making mistakes—and reflecting on them

AI can accelerate execution, but it can’t replace discernment. In a future where tools are abundant, taste may be the most human advantage left.
