Recently came across this interview on Inverse with Mike Mignola about hellboy and what’s cooking but it looks like he is just going back to basics with the books.

You might think Mignola would be eager to ramp up movie production and build a cinematic universe to rival Marvel’s, but that couldn’t be further from his mind. He tells Inverse that “nothing at all” is in development from Hollywood at the moment. He’s actually much more interested in returning to the basics.

One thing that inspires me of Mike Mignola is he is able to keep expanding his Hellboy universe despite trends to do Big Cinematic Universes. He is really holding on to his IP.

Right now, nothing at all is in Hollywood development — which is fine as my focus is always on the books. Hollywood means giving up complete control, which is not always easy when you’re used to having final say on how your stories turn out. It is a challenge, and when it’s going well, I do like the collaboration. But it’s tricky.

Mike Mignola has been just chugging along slowly churning out the Mignolaverse of the Hellboy Universe. One amazing thing is the consistency since it’s all one creator. You won’t get lost in this universe and you can be sure that Book 1 is where to start.

Looking at the hellboy comics and universe as a creator, one can learn about having a vision and control of your universe in the comic medium.

Recently there was a Game released Web of Wyrd which has an art style like the comics. Looking at it reminds me of him just slowly expanding to other media.
