Marketing is hard for developers but it does not have to be if you like making. But as a maker or creator we need to show our work. It took me time to realise this and as I make a game this year I have to share what I am making.
in 2023 I searched for this topic on Youtube and this old video surfaced up, about marketing for developers.
many times we just want to make our thing and just present it the the world, yet we still need to market the product.
These are key points and topics and tactics that came up:
- Providing value is key. People won’t trust you or your product if you don’t offer them something valuable. The speaker recommends creating content to build trust with potential customers. This could be a blog post, a Youtube channel, or something else entirely.
- Niche down. Focus on a specific target audience and their needs. Don’t try to be everything to everyone.
- Be genuine. People are more likely to trust and connect with you if you are yourself.
- Be patient. Building an audience and a business takes time. There is no shortcut to success.
- Learn from others. Partner with other developers or makers in your niche. You can learn from each other and grow together.
- Document your journey. Share your experiences, both positive and negative, with others. This can help you connect with potential customers and build trust.
Looking at this video I am reminded by an old course by Justin Jackson, he also share about this.
