So this was about a year ago The foundry is giving away a 10 year license for Modo Final version 17, for customers.
Now what was interesting is the conversation with Pixel Fondue about acquiring Modo and open sourcing it.
Although this is a tall order I don’t think it will happen.

Hypothetically Modo can become opensource but I am not sure if it can compete with Blender or if it can be acquired for a good price.
Pixel Fondue did try to crowdsource for this and tried to speak with The Foundry but unfortunatly the asking price by Foundry parent Company, Roper Technologies is too high.
The best bet now is you can still download it to see and learn but I won’t be using it much its a nice project and really was what lightwave could have been.
I recommend following Pixel Fondue on this they have been recommending other software besides Modo I might even go back to try lightwave since that was what I started with or Maxon
